What is a greenhouse gas (GHG)?
A greenhouse gas is a type of gas that absorbs and emits light in the infra-red range (heat). These gases naturally occur in our atmosphere but scientific theory suggests that human activity has created increased amounts of these gases through the burning of fossil fuels amongst other activities. This increase has led to our atmosphere retaining heat from the Sun rather than letting it be reflected into outer space. Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Methane (CH4) are some of the more commonly known greenhouse gases.
What is the zero waste economy?
The zero waste economy is a strategy proposed by DEFRA to reduce the overall amount of waste generated in the UK and re-use or recycle any waste that is generated.
