The Breakthrough

The Gasplasma® breakthrough was achieved by combining three existing, proven technologies - a fluidised bed gasifier, a plasma converter and gas engines.

This new process results in waste being converted into a clean syngas - clean enough to drive a gas engine directly and at a competitive cost.

To make sure that we get the maximum energy from the waste, the syngas, chars and ash produced in the gasifier are all fed directly into the plasma converter which operates at over 5,000 degrees Celsius. Any hydrocarbons remaining in the soot, tar and char are broken down to their constituent molecules and converted into further syngas to maximise energy recovery.

The inorganic residues from the gasifier are melted to form a benign, black glass-like substance called Plasmarok®, a valuable recyclate. This leaves around 2% of feedstock to go to landfill.

The combination of the three technologies results in a fully modular system with proven scalability - facilitating short installation time and reduced process risk.
