Proven Technology

The core Gasplasma® technology is a unique and internationally patented two stage Advanced Conversion Technology (ACT).  It combines two long-standing and well proven technologies in a novel configuration to convert residual (non-recyclable) waste into a very clean, hydrogen-rich synthesis gas (syngas) and an inert vitrified product with multiple uses as a building material.

First stage: Fluid Bed Gasifier – supplied by Outotec USA 
Refuse derived fuel (RDF) from municipal and commercial sources are fed into a fluid bed gasifier where it is efficiently transformed into a raw synthesis gas (syngas) that contains tars and chars.

Second (separate) stage:  Plasma Converter - supplied by Tetronics
The raw syngas exiting the fluid bed gasifier is fed into a separate plasma converter which uses the intense UV light and heat from a plasma arc to crack the long chain and aromatic hydrocarbons in the raw syngas.  A pure, highly calorific, hydrogen-rich syngas is produced for highly efficient power generation or for use in multiple other applications. The relatively small amount of bottom ash from the gasifer is also transferred into the plasma converter where it is vitrified into a dense, inert product called Plasmarok®.

Swindon Plant:

A Gasplasma plant has been operating in Swindon since 2008 treating a wide variety of feedstocks including a range of refuse derived fuels, tyre-crumb, auto-shredder residue, food waste and other biomass.

The plant has been the subject of extensive due diligence by partners (and their TA’s) and contractors.
