What is landfill mining?
Landfill mining or mined landfill (MLF) is the revolutionary practice of mining waste buried in a landfill site.  It is a controlled process that requires a high degree of management to ensure waste is extracted safely.  All recyclable materials are recovered and the non-recyclable materials are prepared to make RDF and recover intrinsic energy.

What is Refuse Derived Fuel?
Refuse Derived Fuel or RDF is a prepared fuel made from waste.  Waste is sorted and separated to remove recyclable materials, grit and stones.  The non-recyclable materials are then dried and shredded to make RDF.

What is Secondary Recovered Fuel?
Secondary Recovered Fuel or SRF is a fuel prepared from waste.  It is similar to Refuse Derived Fuel but SRF must achieve an EU defined standard – CEN/TC343.

What is solid recovered fuel?
Solid Recovered Fuel is another name for secondary recovered fuel.

What is commercial waste?
Commercial waste is waste produced by businesses and commercial activities.  It is similar to Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).

What is Municipal Solid Waste?
Municipal Solid Waste or MSW is waste collected by or on behalf of Local Authorities and includes household waste – the kind of waste that goes into a black bin bag or wheelie bin.

Is recycling worth it?
Recycling enables the reuse of materials like glass, metals, paper, card, plastics, etc that would otherwise be sent to landfill.  Recycling is one of many practices that are contributing to a zero waste economy.
